Day 02 - A picture of you and the person you have been close with for awhile.
This one was incredibly tough. There are a few people I've been close with for "awhile." I couldn't just pick one, so you get two, because they are pieces of my whole, and I need both.
1. Breanna
I've known Bre since I was 10 years old. We didn't even like each other for the first two years we knew each other, because she thought I was an insufferable, negative know-it-all, and I thought she was naive, opinionated, and lacked tact. 13 years later and... I think we're both the same XD We are a good team because she knows that she can tell me anything. Despite her cheerful and bouncy demeanor, Bre is quite sensitive. I am a caring, open, and understanding person who she can come to if she's afraid to talk to others or if she needs a kick in the ass. Over the years our relationship has waxed and waned, especially as her personality has flourished and she has found a large group of girls she loves, and as I have been doing my own thing in various parts of the state. With her brutal honesty, Bre is good at reminding me when I'm overreacting, and has given me a lot of opportunity for growth. We spent a lot of time together as kids - we had sleepovers, worked together, and had a vacation. Her family is my family. I have learned to let go of feelings of jealousy associated with not being the main confidante or person she comes to in daily life, and I enjoy the time we spend together. One of the most powerful moments in my life was a time when I felt lost and disconnected from her. I was being childish and told her that I was okay if we weren't friends anymore, because she'd found a whole gaggle of girls to satisfy her needs, and she put me right in my place with sweet (but angry) words about the strength of our friendship. We've given each other countless laughs, a few tears, many shouts, and a lot of love.
2. Suzi
I met Suzi as a new teenager, and a very angry point in my life. I was very egocentric for the first chunk of our relationship, so she remembers our early time better than I do. We bonded over our hatred of life in general (often included those girls, the bitches you go to school with), played volleyball together, were in advanced classes together. She moved away too early. Our friendship has held strong over the last 8 years, even through intermittent emails and phone calls. She and I are each other's relationship advisors, reality checks, and sex twins. She's very intelligent and articulate, and has been there for me many times when I couldn't find the right words. I've done the same for her. We've been each other's proverbial shoulder through breakups and hard times, and have been able to tell each other difficult information regarding opinions, decisions, and life. As much as we are alike, we are different, and the difference lies in relationship priorities in tandem with life priorities. It allows for a perfectly different perspective that is beneficial for both of us. We're mutual teachers, colleagues who are hundreds of miles apart but who work together for a more accepting, understanding, and content future. We acknowledge that we don't know where the road will lead us, but we will get there together.
