"Well... Mommy... was a crybaby."
Jul. 18th, 2010 12:35 amSteve and I finished Clannad: After Story yesterday. That entire series is just a heartstring puller. Every episode makes you cry but it also makes you smile. In the last few episodes, which were the ones we watched yesterday, any reference to a past situation made me well up instantly. There was one episode, like, 19 or something that caught me completely off guard and I sobbed like a baby at the end. Even after the episode ended I just kept streaming tears and had mini hiccups (I'm such a crybaby!). Tomoya is as much of a crybaby as Nagisa, if not moreso. Every little thing would set him off as an adult, good or bad. It was quite silly actually. Anyway, for anyone who loves a subtitled anime dramedy that is all character development, I would definitely recommend Clannad and Clannad: After Story.
In an actual synopsis, Clannad: After Story takes place immediately following the original series (after High School graduation) and follows the main characters for the next ten years of their lives, focusing mostly on Tomoya and the Furukawas. It centers on Tomoya's relationship with Nagisa and learning to be an independent adult, taking life lessons and being guided by Nagisa's parents, Akio and Sanae. It also expands on the "ended world" side story after taking a long absence from visiting that part of the plot. The ending episode is two episodes from the end of the series, and the final two episodes tie up a lot of loose ends. It's very visually appealing and the characters all have unique and charming personalities.
ETA: My new page wallpaper is Nagisa and one of her beloved Dango family.
