Pathetic kitty with shaved arm XD

I can already tell the difference in him from the last time. This hospital ain't cheap (Bill was $1600), but they were worth their money. He was not grumpy or loopy when I brought him home, whereas from Banfield he was groggy and flipping out and didn't want to move. Grim has bright eyes and is affectionate. He's eating pretty well (though he still won't touch the wet stuff - what kind of cat is he?!) and drinking, and he's had TWO normal pees. They told me that him never peeing more than drops for the last week was really concerning, and meant that his blockage was likely not corrected the first time. GRR!!!

They also gave me antibiotics and muscle relaxers along with painkillers this time. He's only gone to the litterbox twice with YAY success, versus all last week when he was basically LIVING in there with very little success. Of course, I was reminded a million times that he can get messed up again ANY SECOND, but I'm crossing my fingers that he's going to be good eating the special food.

I found someone to cover me on short notice for tonight which helps A LOT, because otherwise I'd be spending every second at work being worried. Not to mention I haven't slept yet - I took a nap from 11:30am-1:30pm but was too tightly wound to sleep after I heard I could take him home today.

At the moment, life is great. <3

All right! That's great~! =D (And yes, he could relapse again, but! Positive thinking!) I'm so glad that he's been able to get relief this time--and he sounds like he's recovering better than before. I'm also happy that you got tonight covered so you can monitor him. I know that *I* would be a mess at work--constantly thinking about my kitty, and freaking out that something bad would happen while I was gone.

It's great that you've been such a good parent for Grim! =D I'm really relieved to hear that he's doing better. (I've been talking/updating Brian about it (ie: text message "Grim still isn't doing any better! T.T"), I've been so anxious for you and Grim. @_@)

PS--Did the other place give you any antibiotics last time? If not, that's bad on them. D=

Aww, the updates thing is soooo adorable!! :D And sweet. Recently he's had a couple lesser pees in a row, but I think the medication might have been wearing off (the muscle relaxers) and he was feeling the urge to strain again. I feel bad shoving a pill down his throat - the other two are liquid with syringes. The buprenorphine just needs to be injected in his cheek pocket which is no problem, but the amoxicillin is thicker and needs to be swallowed so it's a bit more trouble.

Oh god, if I had to work tonight I would have been a COMPLETE mess. I need him within eyesight at ALL times, and I like to give him his medicine. I'm his mommy!

The other place gave him an injection of antibiotics, which should be good for another couple of days, but I don't even know what they gave him (though it's probably somewhere on the bill). He's not so happy about THREE medicines several times a day messing with him, but he's a good cat. When the nurse gave him to me she was like, "He's such a sweet guy... but he HATES to be messed with" XD I apologized that he's mostly socialized to love me and Steve, and does the Cat Thing where he avoids company for awhile if it's too loud.

Our kittens are CRAZY about pills going down their throats, and are masters of redirection and tongue manipulation for optimal pill rejection. Getting them to eat one and a half pills for the deworming was MADNESS. Hours and hours. I managed to get Dante, who thrashed but wasn't as good with his tongue, so I was able to shove it down his throat (literally T.T). But, Loki took a total of five hours, one of which was the next day. We tried for about an hour to get it down his throat, but it just was NOT going. So, we tried to crush it up into his food, which didn't help any because the medicine had a strong smell, so he KNEW it was there. We then had to shove the FOOD down his throat as well, though I did manage to get him to eat some of it by deprieving him of food and adding in treats to the mix, so he had no choice.

It was a horrible time. D= And it's only pills--they're really great with everything else (including the time when we had to bathe them for fleas and had to lay them on their backs while they were still wet to go in and meticulously pick off the fleas since there were so many).

So, I'm glad to hear that doping up Grim is going a lot smoother. It would be really hard on both of you if you had to really struggle a lot to help him, since it would only make him feel like you were torturing him. Poor kitty. What he really needs is some mommy love!

PS--I'll tell Brian that he's feeling better! =D

Oh man, that sounds like a nightmare D: Grim is getting more resistive the more he gets his meds, but it's not NEARLY that bad. I got a few globs of amoxicillin on my arm last night, but most of it went in his mouth, and the pill he tried to spit out once but I already had his mouth shut so when I saw the green of the capsule peek out I just poked it back in and he swallowed (it looked hilarious actually when it peeped out). Then he gave me an annoyed look XD

I met with one of the vets at the emergency hotel clinic yesterday and we drew up a mock bill for if he has to get the surgery. She said she went on the spendy side just in case, and it ranged from $2500-$3500. I could pay the low end in theory, but the issue comes when you think that FIRST he has to block AGAIN, which is another $1600 out of my pocket on top of the surgery, which would be scheduled within 48 hours. Ugh. I'm soooo hoping this is the end of our problems!!!

You should've seen him yesterday on the buprenorphine - he was sooo high! He was super affectionate and rubbing on everything and purring and smiling and zipping around XD. Until he got tired, and then he slept for HOURS. Oh my, my stoner kitty.

Man--that's even more expensive than an emergency stay in a hospital for two days and minor surgery AND medication for a human. @_@ Poor kitty...

Oh, stoned Grim. Not so grim! XD

It IS quite interesting the cost of taking care of pets vs people. Sometimes I think it's cruel and unusual >_< So spendy!
