I disagree about yogurt, especially if it's not made with cow's milk, but overall I think we have similar views. I know that you shouldn't eat a lot of grains (if at all) or follow the "meat and potatoes" diet that's typically considered stand American. As for the manipulation through advertising, the only manipulations I get are from what I'm reading in books and they think I should eat, because I don't watch tv, I don't read magazines, I don't listen to the radio. You could argue that I get billboard advertisements, or grocery stores try to convince me what I should eat, but I genuinely believe that I make my own decisions based off of what I get from books and how much of that information I believe. I recently looked through the new "Eat Right for you type" book, that says your blood type determines what you should eat and how your body metabolizes food, but it really seemed to me like they compiled all the foods and arbitrarily picked which ones are "good" and which are "bad" depending on your blood type. It felt a lot like I was getting my food horoscope read. I can see where there would be factors genetically linked, but other than that, it seemed like a crock.

We get so much information from a nearly unlimited number of sources, all coming from differing viewpoints, about what we're "supposed" to eat. I try not to follow any one opinion because I think that it's always a work in process, and one person can tell me eating nuts in place of meat is great for you, while another will tell me that you're still not getting all the necessary nutrients for a healthy body. It's complicated, and I think that's okay because I'm not aiming to be perfect anyway. Just healthy.
