Complete BS, otherwise known as The State Shutdown

You may not know this, as I am unsure about how much national news publicity MN has been getting for this crap, but on July 1st, Minnesota had not reached a budget agreement, and per our law, the state government shut down, with exclusions that were agreed upon last-minute (such as Medicaid, Group Residential housing, and medication assistance). We have been shut down for 14 long, annoying days, and today they say they MIGHT be reaching an angry agreement.

This is such crap. It affects a hell of a lot of people (with like 20-some thousand state workers without jobs right now and so many social service programs shut down), and it even affects me! I lost my whole wallet the week before Distant Worlds, and I have been without a license for almost a month. I squeezed into the DMV before the shutdown, but a paper copy is really only good in case I get pulled over. But Miller had to pull its beer from the shelves, bars and other establishments haven't been able to renew THEIR licenses, Canterbury (huge racing track) had to close, the economy is falling apart even MORE and all because some idiots in the government couldn't agree on a budget.

The point is, Minnesota is the ONLY state to be stupid enough to SHUT. DOWN. during one of these debacles. Ugh. Hate.

We had a huge debacle over our budget... last year I think. I went to a state run college and they were talking about cutting jobs or making the work week only 4 days long. they resolved it... but basically our state's broke.

the REAL scary thing is that they're fighting over little things in the budget when these politicians earn so much per year and don't do anything. or that they give tax breaks so that big companies will come in and it squeezes out all the little companies. or how the federal reserve charges us interest on every dollar they print (inflation)...

i hate that our political "leaders" are basically here swindling us... and we can't do anything about it because the next fool we elect will do the same thing. D:

sorry to rant... but i just wanted to say that i feel ya... im sorry about your license.

No I totally agree, our whole system is stupid and backwards and we feel so helpless to change it, because none of us SMART and DECENT people want to become politicians because we're so jaded and we KNOW that regardless of how hard we try, changing the system is nigh impossible D:

I am SO MAD about politicians and politics and the stupid squabbles between parties. And arguing about small, stupid, fundamental divides between the parties instead of focusing on the big picture. And I DEFINITELY think it should not be allowed to tack little sneaky bills on top of a larger bill. UGH!
