I'd also keep in mind that it took 10 years of seeing different doctors and specialists before someone figured out why my mom was getting severe pain in her uterus/abdomen. If it wasn't for the one person who eventually suggested the right test to see what was going on (and identify it), she may have still been having it now, or even died from it. So, sometimes you just have to keep trying until someone finds out the solution.
Besides, the excuse of "some people are just prone to them" smacks heavily of laziness to me. After all, WHY are some people more prone to them is the obvious question to ask. If it's a problem with the urethra or bladder or magical Zenor orb in the pelvis, then that should be found as the cause why some people just "mysteriously" get UTIs much more frequently than the rest of the population.
And it's sad about Grimm having to suddenly deal with a vagina now, but at least there aren't any cat social conventions about what it means if you have one set of genitalia or another, right? =D Also, oddly too bad that you couldn't do a similar sort of surgery and having all your UTI problems fixed for good, and be able to pee standing up! XD
I still think that the reason I got through some of my worst days in my pregnancy was having the cats around. They always knew the difference between when I was in bed because I was terribly sick and when I was just being lazy (not that they're against the lazy--they love it when I take a nap XD).
